HIGH PRESSURE WATER MIST EXTINGUISHING EQUIPMENT

Atomizing water into micrometre drops favourably influences the energy conversion efficiency of heat transfer and hence the extinguishing process. The use of water mist can significantly reduce the amount of water needed for extinguishing, close to the theoretical fire water requirement. It is primarily used to extinguish surface fires of solids. Deep-burnt, smouldering materials can be extinguished using particles introduced with high energy. It has the advantages of very good energy conversion efficiency, low extinguishing agent requirement and minimal water damage. The water mist is created by special spray nozzles at high pressure and high blow-out speed. In the event of a fire, water droplets of 30–200 microns in diameter flood the protected area, exerting their extinguishing effects in the immediate vicinity of the fire. The high surface-to-mass ratio of water droplets allows for rapid evaporation, allowing the water mist to quickly absorb heat and efficiently reduce ambient temperature. The water mist extinguishing equipment prevents the spread of fire and significantly reduces the radiation of heat to surrounding surfaces. The physiologically safe, clean water mist allows people to escape quickly and easily, and helps firefighters reach the site of the fire.
